Considered one of the finest residential communities in Oregon, Lake Oswego is located about eight miles south of Portland and features lots of natural beauty and plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Home to less than 40,000 residents, Lake Oswego is small and charming, but its close proximity to the city makes the area extremely attractive to commuters.
 
The picturesque 400+ acre Oswego Lake is the centerpiece of this community and a variety of beautiful homes surround it. Often called one of the most affluent neighborhoods in the state of Oregon, Oswego Lake is home to a number of luxury million-dollar homes as well as single-story starter homes and more modest estates. English cottage, Tudor Revival, Victorian and Craftsman are some of the most popular architectural styles.
 
Residents of Lake Oswego enjoy swimming, boating and fishing, and there’s a big golfing community here as well. More than two dozen parks are located in and around this community, and hiking trails and sports fields are also abundant.

Dining, Entertainment and Shopping

There are a number of community events that take place in Lake Oswego throughout the year. The Lake Oswego Farmers Market takes place each Saturday from May through October and features over 80 vendors each week selling various produce, meats, nuts, cheeses, artisan bread, jams, baked goods, fresh seafood, and more. Other annual events include the Star Spangled Parade and Celebration for the Fourth of July, plus Summer Concerts, Movies in the Park, the Holiday Tree Lighting, and more.
 
Lake View Village, located in the heart of downtown Lake Oswego, is one of the area’s top retail shopping destinations featuring fine dining establishments, highly regarded national and local shopping retailers such as Chico’s, Mapel Boutique, and Grapevine, plus Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Five Spice Seafood + Wine Bar, Holy Taco and Manzana Rotisserie Grill. Medical and professional services firms are also located there.
 
At Millennium Plaza Park, you’ll find a large paved plaza, fireplace, reflecting pond, and a pergola with views of Lakewood Bay. The park opened in 1999 and hosts a farmers market. It has also been a start and finish site for the annual Lake Run event.
 
Mercato Grove, a commercial development in Lake Oswego that is currently on the rise, offers six restaurants: Fills Donuts, Grassa, Lardo, Oven and Shaker, St. Jack, and Tasty.
 
Babica Hen, a hip, buzzy cafe known for its house-made breakfast and lunch, is also a popular stop, as is Glassbaby, a nationally recognized chain that sells hand-blown glass.
 

Things to Do

Lake Grove Swim Park, featuring diving platforms, inner tubes, lounge chairs, picnic tables, and various water toys, this lifeguard-protected gathering spot is open seven days a week during July and August.
 
George Rogers Park, this 26-acre public park contains two baseball fields, a soccer field, access to the Willamette River, a memorial garden area, restrooms, a playground, and two outdoor tennis courts.
 
Fourth of July Festivities, western Display Fireworks produces a fantastic show on the Western end of the Main Lake. Hundreds of boaters attend the annual event.
 
Tryon Creek State Park, located about 15 minutes from downtown Portland, Tryon Creek is Oregon's only state park within a major metropolitan area. The park features eight miles of hiking trails, eight bridges, and a boardwalk over a wetland. There are 3.5 miles of packed gravel trails for equestrians plus a bicycle path, and a range of educational programs and guided hikes are offered throughout the year. 
 
Willamette Trolley, this is a heritage railroad or heritage streetcar that operates along the west bank of the Willamette River between Portland and Lake Oswego in the U.S. state of Oregon.
